We have an option. We can allow people to have their blogs open to the public. Currently they are set so that only members of this community who are signed in can see them.

If we open them to the world, our concern is that some people will unwittingly put shit in their blogs that will then make its way on to the web. Anyone searching for information on a person or any web crawler/spyder/search tool will be documenting the blog every step of the way.

It's possible to shut off broadcasting to the public in your private settings, and in fact the default we have set up is to not share that information. By default, your blogs are all currently set to only allow your buddies to see your blogs.

In order to expand your range of viewers, each blog owner has to manually go in and do so.

There is no way (despite changing the setting) that any blog owner can currently make their blog open to the entire world, however.

We're very nervous that some of our young posters would post things that make their way onto the web or into the hands of hostile people that they would later regret.

While normally we run a "tough love, tough shit" kind of schedule 'round these parts, we're also highly protective of our membership.

Thus, we put it to you.

Should we open the blogs so that if a user chooses to, their blogs can be viewed by complete strangers, web crawlers, search spiders, pedophiles and so on? Their settings would still be of the highest privacy by default and the user would have to manually change their settings for this to happen.

Okay, allowing guests to see them is one thing, but allowing all members to view your blogs (but allowing to block individual members) is another. In this case, we're fine as we are. Guests can log in or register to see blogs.

If you post things on the internet that you dont want everyone to know you are a retard. No matter how much you restrict who can see them.
