Snyder v. Phelps: Revenge of the Westboro Baptist Church

In March the SCOTUS (Supreme Court) issued certiorari (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Westboro_Baptist_Church#Lawsuit_against_WBC_.E2.80 .93_funeral_pickets_ruled_protected_speech) to hear an appeal of Snyder v. Phelps, a case where a family of a dead US solider sued the WBC for 8 Million USD. The district judge ruled with Snyder, but reduced the damages to 2.1 million. The 4th Circuit Appeals court ruled in favor of the WBC shortly thereafter, claiming that the WBC's protests are protected speech and do not violate the Snyders' right to privacy. The court also ruled that the Snyder family owes the WBC over $16,000 in legal fees.

So far, over 40 US Senators have voiced their support for the Snyder Family, and 48 states have filed their support of the family. Maine and Virginia are the exceptions.

I have to give it to the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster, as much as I hate their ignorance of legitimate religions (whatever that constitutes in your own mind), they do do some good stuff from time to time.

I have a gay friend who lives down near Baton Rouge, and he attended a counter protest of the WBC. He uploaded pictures to facebook, I love the counter protests.

And aye, long time no see Fargo. Not to get off topic, but how's life treating you? College and all?

Fantastic from a grade standpoint. I literally can't do better than 4, so I'm pretty stoked on that.

Hopefully I can get a scholarship or full ride to Cincinnati or Case Western if I maintain my academics. The plan's nanotechnology. And you?
