From the Joe Schmoe who brought you Jennifer Government and the original NationStates browser game comes NationStates2 (http://nationstates2.com).

The premise is exactly the same. You create a nation to rule as your own, and the extent of these interactions are deciding upon two issues every 24 hours that effect various background aspects of your nation, most visibly your government type and your national summary.

Like any good browser-based game, you're pretty much done as soon as you make your decisions. You're free to change your decisions at any point, but that's all the game offers you. However, they do offer you communities and forums where you can interact with other nations, and even Role Play with the thousands of other users in what are essentially "forum wars". I have never partaken of that feature, but it's always there.

The Issues are where it is at. They sometimes give you difficult choices, as the lobbyists swaying your decision often give you the most extreme options. As an example, a prostitute-killer facing the death penalty will have people begging you to kill all murderers and rapists, laud the man for his vigilante efforts, or any number of bizarre options.

As an example of a user-created nation, check out the Commonwealth of Seras (http://nationstates2.com/g/nation/seras).

I have to warn you now, the game is in beta and alot of things arent finished. I have a nation there (or I did) and theres not much to do so it got boring. Unless its changed in the last month or so, I havent even signed in in about that long.

"Not much to do" is a common problem with web-based games. Can't exactly expect you to do everything in real time. It's not a MUD, and some people won't be active. Therefor, limit the players' active actions to two or five a day.

It's still fun if you want something neat to do for those five to ten minutes a day.

I've had a theme of always siding with the Police in my nation. What can I say? It's just the way I think. Sam Vimes is a fine example of a man, after all.

However, I am troubled with this issue about foreign languages and cultural awareness.

One solution is to make foreign language compulsory from early-level education, which surely will increase education and business;
Another solution is to open the gates to immigration and let the language come to us.

I'm already pretty high-up on my World's rankings for immigrants received, but it can't hurt to have more cheap labor. Instant economy boost, or a more passive education/culture path?

I've got one of these things. Behold, The Orbital Death Ray (http://nationstates2.com/g/nation/theorbitaldeathray).

For those wondering how an Orbital Death Ray can have mountainous terrain, I like to think of it as us having annexed some parcels of land in the past so as to conduct our Earthen affairs before the ka-Boom.

I've been a real tech-heavy Nation as of late, but they give them to me. I'm trying to build up my sciences as much as I can before converting all my efforts to military.

We are, first and foremost, a scientific vessel. It's like Armageddon with ADD: Hold the world ransom, destroy major cities with a death ray, mutate voluptuous babes into mutant liza-- oooooh, new specie of fungus!

I run the fine country of Malaria. (http://nationstates2.com/g/nation/malaria) A swampy and small country, but full of love for their supreme ruler. Political decisions are generally pretty extreme, but some drastic measures must be taken to ensure happiness for all citizens.

Looks like we're hosting the Olympics too.

I'm feeling quite proud of my nation. One request to promote nuclear energy and BOOM, Enriched Uranium leads my economy into the double-digits and my population increases exponentially daily.

It may be modest, but it's mine.

Behold, the USSR. (http://nationstates2.com/g/nation/rusistania)

We may or may not have a secret police, and we may, or may not have missing nukes. We are not liable for any deaths caused within our country. We stopped claiming them after we got murders and state executions mixed up.

Does it have an option to distribute viagra to your citizens to make them populate?

Just some trivia: The population in an advanced (technology-based) society actually decreases when left to its own devices. Same for service-based industry.

Manufacturing and agriculture societies grow in population.

The population in the modern United States actually shrinks each generation currently. Without immigration we could not sustain ourselves.

I don't see that reality reflected in NS2. Am I missing something?

Well, NationStates2 has gone under. There goes that. A shame, my Orbital Death Ray was really excelling.

Went under? How?

There were some bugs with the economy portion of the game. Which in due time would have screwed the game over. And on top of that Jolt wasn't getting enough money from the players. So they shut it down.

It's also worth mentioning that Max Barry had nothing to do with NS2. Jolt just took the name and ran with it.

I personally find it fun to run a group of depraved citizens.
