There's a coup in Kyrgyzstan, a country with a major US air force base. Some consider it a Russian power-play to take away the US base there.

Suspicions of the Kremlin's hand in the unrest were raised when Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin became the first world leader to recognize the authority of the self-proclaimed government, just hours after it took power.

...

"Russia is going to dominate Kyrgyzstan and that means problems for the U.S," Nick Day said. "Russia will use this as a lever in negotiations with America."

...

"In Kyrgyzstan there should be only one base -- Russian," a senior Russian official told reporters in Prague after Obama and Dmitry Medvedev signed a landmark treaty to reduce vast Cold War arsenals of nuclear weapons.

This all sounds very fishy. Considering it coincides with the crash of the Polish president's plane, could this all be a massive show of strength by Russia? Or is that just conspiracy theory?

Discuss.
