First off, I would like to apoligize on behalf of the entire state of Kansas and myself for letting these fuckers live here.
The Church is centred around Topeka, KS. The main belief of the church is that God hates America, because of our tolerance to allow gays to live the same life with the same rights as anyone else. Every death of a US soldier, service worker, politician, anything in uniform really, is God's punishment on America. They're known for portesting funerals for any of the above, most recently being the funerals of the West Virigina miners.

These people make me sick, a few years back around 6th grade. A classmate of mine's father was killed in the line of duty as a firefighter.
Guess who protested the funeral?
As they're holding up signs, with shit saying "Your fathers in hell!"
More recently, a Sedgwick county sherrif was shot and killed on a routine call that cost him his life. My mother was close with the entire family and watched him grow up. He was the nicest person ever from the stories i've heard of those who knew him. He loved God and enjoyed his job.
Guess who showed up at his funeral?
As a Kansan, I could rant on forever about this group and their activity here, and probably will in later posts.

As much as I hate what the WBC does (And I very rarely use the word hate, so that's just how much I deplore it), and as happy as I am that Bill O'Reilly is paying for the dues (which is how this should work, through charity) they do have a right to protest so long as they are not on private property, and if they are, they protest at the discretion of the property owner.
Through the principle of Judicial Review (established in Marybury v. Madison, the concept that the Supreme Court can nullify laws, and essentially legislate from the bench) and constitutional jurisprudence (the idea that the Supreme Court sets a precedent for constitutional interpretations in court in the future), this case can be very touchy.
I support paying off the money that the Snyders owe to the WBC, but by finding in favor of the Snyders in the Supreme Court, a very very dangerous precedent can be set. This would essentially say that free speech is only sometimes free, and that if it at all can emotionally hurt somebody, then it can be restricted. Though the Snyder Case itself would not be a bad ruling, the slippery slope it would establish would be an assault on free speech.
Free speech is free speech, so long as they do not actually hurt somebody. Even if it is hate speech, if the WBC themselves are not participating in violent activities, they can do it.
The way to combat this is to establish more private property near funeral homes through the privatization of areas, this would allow property owners to tell the WBC to screw off and they wouldn't be able to do much at all.
At least, that's one theory to solve it. I just fear for the rulings that would come into effect because of this case.

These fuckers are coming to Tucson to picket the VICTIMS OF THE GIFFORDS SHOOTING.
They're gonna go down there and picket the victims' funerals and their families. They were going to picket the 9-year-old girl's funeral, but they "have an interview" at that time instead.
Are you fucking kidding me? That's one hell of a chicken shit way of getting out of a death sentence. The people of Arizona would have converged upon those funerals and I swear to God the atmosphere in Tucson is so tense and so upset right now that not a single one of those WBC fucks would make it out alive.
So in some sense, it's a shame. Cowards.
Also last night an emergency law was signed by the Governor to ban protesters within 300 feet from a funeral.

However, that's the starter kit. Word on the street is that some of the less passive clubs in Denver also plan to attend. By "less passive" I mean clubs such as the Valiants, Leatherneck, Diablos, Gringos, Bandidos, and it wouldn't surprise me to see some Hells Angels there.
These are not passive groups, and there could be a lot of them. They tend to work each other up too, and in Denver all the motorcycle clubs pretty much get along well with each other; leaving the protesters as the odd ones out.
It could get pretty interesting.

We thought the same when they said they were coming to PA to protest a few funerals of the kids who died in a farmhouse fire and a family who was murdered by their son, unsurprisingly, they never showed up.
I think Snyder v. Phelps actually helped stopping them because now they've got enough negative attention not to protest.
