View Full Version : AK-47 vs M16
That argument from back in Vietnam, which is better, the AK-47 or the M16. Please don't just be a fanboy, that's what MW2 is for. Give your opinion, but
use facts and be sensible, no "omfg AK is gayzors M16 pwns you all lol noobs".
To start, I personally prefer the AK-47. It's been around for 63 years, and it still looks good today. Sure the round ain't so hot after 300 meters, but then again most combat happens at less then 100, and the AK shoots fine to that distance. You have a gun that needs minimal cleaning and whose magazines and accessories are easier to find then crack in Detroit, not to mention when you do need to clean it, some spit and a sock will work wonders! I think it's a spectacular gun, and the fact that it's killed more people then any other weapon ever made speaks volumes.

AK47 > M16A1
M16A2 M16A3 M16A4 > AK47
And this kids is what we call a fail opinion post, with no facts or even any sentences.

Why are we comparing the AK-47 to the M16? There are much newer variants like the AK-100 series which are even more reliable and accurate than the AK-47, AKM or AK-74

ORLY? Besides the whole "urban warfare" bullshit in the Middle East, most combat actually happens 130-500m.
Anyway, I'm going to have to say the M16. The 5.56 round flies a lot farther, making it a great rifle for marksmen. It might not have the stopping power of a 7.62 round from the AK, but a headshot with anything will stop them, and it's firing rate on full auto is actually controlled, meaning you can fire it on full auto and still have so decent accuracy, unlike the AK, which has shit accuracy on auto.
ANd I agree with Taep. Why are we comparing it to an Ak47, whic is shit compared to modern AK's.
The AK-47 fires a legit round, but it's quite uncontrollable. I say that the AK-74 vs. M16A4 is more of an interesting fight. Personally, because the AK-74 is specialized for what it does, I say it's best in a well rounded way. However, in modulability, the M16 takes the cake.
I meant the whole Kalashnikov design in general, ranging from the original AK-47 up to the AEK-971 and whatnot.

The AK-47 is the classic, though.
I like it mostly for cosmetic reasons, however.
The poor accuracy is made up for in my opinion by it's great use for spraying and clearing in movies and games.
But, it's also who has it. For a Tactical person, something like the M16 or a carbine works well.
For a Mercenary or stereotypical Army-guy (Tackleberry), the AK is the way to go.

The AK is for someone who doesn't want the best gun evar, but rather for someone who needs a reliable and easy to use weapon that kills people. Now the AN-94 is a different story.

The AN-94 is irrelevant as it is not an AK. Neither is the AEK-971. They were made by completely different people. The newest AK is the AK-9 but I would consider that more of a CQB weapon than a true assault rifle.

The AEK works on the same internals, albeit the AN-94 doesn't, but the AEK does.
The M16A2 is pretty much my bread and butter, even if people now refer to it as a "long rifle" or as "a bleepin' musket". Sure, we'll be using M4s down in the 'Stan and everyone loves an M2 and Mk 19 (especially when wielding the Mk 19 Jesse Ventura-style. Love it!), but you've gotta give love to the weapon you've used reliably and consistently for the past couple of years.
Personally, I always thought the M14 shouldn't have died so quickly, and I got my wish with the Mk. 14 EBR Enhanced Battle Rifle Mod. 0

The recoil control on an M16 is phenomenal. The recoil hits your shoulder instead of jumping upwards.

I'll agree with you on that. I blazed a full mag of a C7A2 (basically M16A3 clone) on full auto, and the recoil was nothing, pretty much an automatic .22, and on semi it's a nail driver.

The rifling on the C7 has a tighter twist resulting in higher accuracy. The C7 also has a chrome lined hammer forged barrel which according to the Colt Canada website helps improve accuracy. Plus the rubber butt pad probably helped reduce felt recoil a little bit. I wouldn't really call it an M16A3 clone, more of an improved and modernized version of the M16A1 because the C7 developed out of the M16A1 improvement program alongside the M16A2.

The average C7A2 today is equipped with an ELCAN scope, retractable Carbine-style stock, M203 or folding foregrip, and sometimes a flashlight or PEQ-2.

Because the AK-47 is a classic. It's class outranks every other AKsomethingwhatever.
Also, I don't get it. This whole "VS" thing with guns seems to be a little overboard for something like 2 guns.
Maybe it's because I'm not obsessed with that. I'm obsessed with other things.

No one uses Canadian guns in video games silly!
No, it was a REAL C7 I used at a Canadian Military open house event at a local gun club. I fired a Hi-Power, C7A2, and a C9 (M249) not to mention a few other rifles at the club.
