Well I just came back from Spanish Guitar Hero noobfest '09.
Damn did I own everybody there.
I won a ticket for the movies (Watchmen, here I come) and popcorn. Yum.

We do things to make goons feel at home here. We do things to make WBW'ers feel at home here. We do things to make OTFers feel at home here. We do things to make Bronco Country members feel at home here, and we do other things for other groups so that they each feel this is their community.
This thread has a historical and cultural significance to the Pandemic crowd, so it should be safe. You'll also find a familiar skin to help make you feel at home in the bottom left-hand corner of each page of the boards.
Besides, this isn't really a spam thread per se. It contributes something to the community and it has a point.

How's school?
School as in me as a student or school as in me as a teacher?
I've taught some already. I'm going to get my master's, but I already have two bachelor's which qualifies me to teach with supervision.
My life as a student is going very well. No complaints.
I'm just in the pre-test course now. It's kind of insane. I spent $1400 to help me prep for a test that costs $140 so that I make sure I get a high score. Then I took a pre-test for it and apparently I can score what I need to score with doing nothing more than learning how to cross-cancel X.
On one hand I am very relieved, because the scores my school wants are very high and it's a very exclusive school, so I'm in great shape to get in (which I pretty much knew I'd do anyway, but I still like to be sure).
On the other it kind of makes me cocky, so now I'm blowing everything off. It's hard to take a test that I know I am going to pass seriously. It's very hard to hunker down and hit the books for it when I know I can essentially walk in without a sweat.
So naturally something will happen that bites me in the ass.
Wisdom dictates that I'm now incredibly nervous because I scored well and can take it easy, and am having a problem doing otherwise. I'm not very good at terrorizing myself apparently.
Other than that though, everything is great. I'll overcome that too though. I'm not about to piss away the opportunity, so I'll eventually pull it together.

I dunno what to tell them. The environments are different. This is not meant to be Pandemic lite. This is a community that's existed for many years (longer than Pandemic, actually) in one shape or another, and never has it ever had a restriction on language of any kind other than the social consequences of using racial or demeaning words that display one's own ignorance.
This site has never had moderators, and we're not about to start now. I'm also not a fan of making rules we can't enforce.
It's a social community where the community shapes itself. I'm not interested in creating a canned community. Hang out here, don't hang out here... Each to their own. I'd like to see this community do something special, but then again it already has so...

I'm sure it'd take some getting used to.
I remember when I was a kid and I always thought that Santa Claus was some jolly, husky man who went about giving gifts to good boys and girls for the sake of spreading cheer and rewarding good behavior.
It took some used to getting used to a Santa Claus that swore, smelled like alcohol and sweat, and beat up mommy, but after I got over the initial shock it just became a way of life.
After all, if he still gave you presents at Christmas, and if mommy always told the police that she didn't want to press charges and she never left the marriage, then what difference does it make it Santa has stubble and home-made tattoos instead of a fluffy white beard and reindeer?

Like, a month or two ago.
I tried to clean the mess up and said "He isn't a gay porn star, and he'll be sorely missed by all the community. amirite gaiz?". But unfortunately, that didn't turn out as I expected.
If people cannot handle a little swearing, i dread to think how they're going to cope when they enter the big wide world. Bah, some people are over sensitive and too easily offended.

In defense of those sites, they are run for profit and face a stinging rage of public scrutiny. The back-lash can be severe. What's that lawyer's name? Thompson? Fox NEWS went after Mass Effect. Hugo Chavez attempted to claim a CIA conspiracy over Mercs 2. Death threats were issued on that board, to those employees. Lazlowe, Amalthea, Random Task, myself and even some of the mods all received threats.
Which game was it that was banned for featuring a famous cathedral?
That site and those like them live in a reality that this site doesn't have to deal with.
They're a video game company and those games are designed for younger users. They have a certain expectation to live up to and are under constant pressure from would-be "web journalists" that would love to find something juicy to "get their big break" on. Finding a video game board full of child porn and scat would be a big story to them.
So they're under a different set of rules and have to conduct themselves differently. Lawsuits abound, and the consequences are real and reaching. People's jobs and lively-hoods are on the line each and ever day there. A couple of racist comments that go un-noticed for too long can get someone punted out the door.
The purpose here is very different, and the audience and detractors very different. There's no such thing as "bad press" for a site like this - this site has no publicly traded stock. This site wouldn't mind it if people threw a tissy over something stupid. If this site offends someone, that's absolutely okay, if not encouraged.
The purposes of the communities is very different. They're there to provide access, advertising and marketing for a product they intend to make profit on which ultimately delivers dividends to stock-holders.
We're here to entertain ourselves. The goals are different, and as such the tools and constraints are different.
Those "other places" don't suck. They're cool and they serve a purpose and do a good thing for their audience and their employees. They're providing a service that people want. Their jobs are very far from easy.
The service people want there compared to here however, is very, very different.
They have people to answer to. This site doesn't (aside from the general community - which is a big job in its own right).
The situations are totally different. It's not reasonable nor fair to judge that site with the same set of rules one judges this one. They do not share a common circumstance. These two entities do not live in the same reality.

I was not referring to the Pandemic mods, they're just there because PunBB doesn't work. I was actually referring to the defective modpersons from various sites. An example is ACS (Acecombatskies.com), where the mods are a group of racist and misogynistic douches attempting to run a site. It's a mob-owned pizza parlour of a site (yes, I'm stealing stuff from the Sopranos, sue me [not you HBO]) swindling customers good experiences that could have been had.

So after spending five hours in school doing stage crew work yesterday, my legs are officially worthless. I can't walk without being reminded how much they hated activity. Carrying tables, chairs, stands, and trying to eat my dinner behind the stage without being seen. Fun. But not really. I'm glad I'm a senior, because I'll never have to do that again.

Stage Crew is fun dude, I was the light board operator at my school. We actually had a really nice setup, outisde groups used to rent our theater to put on shows and stuff in. I got exposed to alot of different stuff, makes me wonder if I shouldve been a theater major sometimes.

With all honesty, I must say that performing on the stage is much more satisfying. The thing is, we have 3 stages. One of them is a state of the art performing arts center. I didn't work there. No, I worked behind the scenes at a temporary stage "shell" set up in the school gymnasium and helped out in the auxiliary gym. I was rewarded with below average music from bands in category "C."

You still WRITE it as "an heir" if it's PRONOUNCED "an heir".

We really just put these up out of idle curiosity and so we'd have them if we wanted them. They are pretty good blogs though. I'm genuinely surprised at how good they are, and they do a lot more than we've had time to tinker with so far too.
But if you want to use them super. If not, don't. Linking people to your blog here is no different than linking them to someplace else though, except we won't spam the shit out of them.

I think the system works great the way it is. If you are like me and don't put anything in a blog that you don't want the world to know, then you have the option to open it to the masses, as I did.
If you are one who offers information that the world doesn't need to see, then don't make it public.

I somehow doubt that's what they refer to him as in the military.
I had a few sergeants that were kind enough to refer to me by my first name, but it was rare and only senior NCOs did it. It was a sign of affection and praise for them to do so. It's not common in the military for members of different ranks than one's own to use one's first name. Even most of my best friends called me by my last name.
Hell man, even my girlfriend called me by my last name...
It's really pretty rare indeed. I'd be surprised to find they called him by his first name.
Weird. A notice telling me that I am 160 dollars under for the month of March, as far as housing go, payment due no later than April 21st.
This is strange for two reasons, the first of which is that payment is automatically deducted. The second of which is that this notice was stapled to my door on Thursday, the 23th of April, and it's asking me to pay by the 24th, a Tuesday, a Tuesday in the past no less.

Many members use the forums as a support system. They're here to be with the people their comfortable around. Others just talk games. Some are just idiots too, but I don't remember them long enough to mention their names.
Laid back or not, keeping the community together is important to me. Whichever site it's on isn't my concern, so long as the support system isn't broken.
