As you can all see currently, there are 89 post icons still to be decided on.

49 will make the cut. 40 will not.

Let's talk about some people want removed.

Let's thin out the herd here.

If we keep Art then we can get rid of Video, Music, Classics, Books, Cars, Webcomic and Movies.

Serious, Unfunny and Stupid are all sort of the same thing. We should pick one of those to keep. I think Unfunny is the best choice of those three to keep.

I have no idea why the fuck Flannel, Tools, Zounds, Shocking, Hark, Goons in Space, Take a Seat, Gear, Irony, Don't Go There, Treasure, Effort or Explosions made it this far to begin with.

If we have Tech, we don't need the Web or the computer tags.

If we keep Gents, we should keep Gamer Gurl. Or we should remove both.

That's a start. All told, those alone would eliminate 22 (or 24 if we get rid of Gents and Gamer Gurl) slots.

If anyone is opposed to this, let's discuss it a bit. In two days this poll will close.

Gamer Gurl is already on the chopping block, along with Gents. We're not keeping one and ditching the other. Art allows us to eliminate about 12 others. We only have room for 49.

May I ask what the significance of 49 is? Why not 56? or 63? Frankly, I'm fine with what we got now. It don't bog the page down, and it's pretty easy to find things.

Sure:

I've spent most of the evening downloading icons for threads (if you try to reply to this you'll see some of them).

The problem is we have like 200+ of these bastards and we're not sure what to do about it.

We have some choices to make then. This would be the first one:

How many icons do you all think is reasonable to have an option of?

I think the way it is now is fine. 49 would be a little many, but I suppose we could just add new ones as needed.

But fundamentally speaking, you're right.

Too many post icons looks trashy and ridiculous. Stupid and childish even.

There does need to be a limit, and I think 49 is at the upper end of the scale - as you first said in your response. Personally, I think that's a bit many myself.

I do realize there are some absolutely bitchin icons here - goons have good loot! But with that said, there's still a limit to what we can have running and it not look like utter trash.

49 icons is a lot, really. That's quite a variety and it's a big enough wall of icons for someone to load and to see every time they post. I don't see a problem with your original statement of 49 icons at all.

I feel like that's about as many as we can get in without it looking gaudy and trashy.

It does mean we'll have to make some choices though, and I personally hope that everyone in the community thinks of everyone else in the community. That's what I hope Tramps become known for - taking care of each other.

I love cats. I love dogs. My hope is that someone shits us a "pets" or "animals" icon so we can represent everyone without singling anyone out or without leaving them out.

That's my feeling on it. I only get one vote here too though, but I think you were right the first time, Airstrike. I think 49 is a reasonable limit - but some choices do have to be made.

For the record, I did submit a ticket to VB asking them to make it possible to assign post icons by forum or category rather than by usergroup, so that each forum we make can have its own set (eliminating the problem we currently face).

I've been told that it's on their list - but it's a big list and this hardly rates as a priority. None the less I did manage to get it on the list.

But for today, we have to make some choices.

We have and will keep Art, which all of the above are a sub-category of.

We're ditching Serious and Stupid, and keeping Unfunny.

Zounds, Explosions and Irony have been spared for this batch.

Web and Computer both got wiped.
