So, while you have never used this company, you felt the need to find this forum, create a membership and create this thread for the sole purpose of posting this advert for them.
Very kind of you sir. Very kind indeed. I present you with this award!

We sure have had a lot of them lately.
Are they using the doggie door? Do we gotta get that nailed, quick?
Wait. With a name like Mr. Buratinni, he has to be an honest man! I think we should hear him out.

We're not getting "a lot" of them. This site gets hit by a few hundred (if not thousand) bots per day. A few bots use human beings to get through. This is unfortunate, but also reality.
There's nothing we can do about the bots that have a human on the other side to get them through.
Well... Almost nothing. We do plan to do something about this, and there's really only one reasonable way to do that. We can either make a huge inconvience out of account creation where we moderate initial posts or perhaps require an invitation to become an approved member... Things of that nature.
Or... We can put a program on the front end that makes people have to offer a nominal fee to join the site.
To be honest, after we get a few hundred members here (won't be long), we're thinking about placing such a gate on the community. It wouldn't be expensive, just a token to show good intent. No spam bot is going to pay money to advertise here (that would make it both legal and ethical - how absurd!).
So yes, that's what we plan to do sometime in the near future, is put a gate on the community. As long as there's a way for people to get in here for free, someone or another will sit at a bot manually and get it through whatever defenses we build. In some nations where spamfactories operate, they can employ a person for a nickel a day to sit there and get their spam bot through whatever obstacles are set up.
As long as that remains the case and that spam hauses are allowed to operate with relative freedom and little consequence, there's not much anyone can do about it on this site or any other. The only solution is to make sure that those that do come here to advertise have given something back to the community in the process.
So yes, eventually there will be a gate.
Would this gate apply to existing members, too?

No.
You're already here, you're founders, friends, and people that have shown love and loyalty to the community here (and other places). No, the gate will not be retro-active.
No, the gate will not apply to you. You'll keep your free accounts and the full gambit of features.
We're quite certain you've earned them.
